History, Geography & Religious Education (RE)
We want our pupils to acquire fundamental skills and knowledge in these subjects. Pupils will feel confident and proud of their identity and celebrate the cultural diversity of our school.
At OGPS we aim to:
1. Give a broad and balanced curriculum.
2. Explore our own identities, values and beliefs.
3. Develop critical and creative thinking skills and habits.
4. Foster children’s understanding of themselves and their relation to the natural world, places and each other.
5. Learn about democracy, sustainability and global citizenship.
6. Develop a wide knowledge base, curiosity and understanding of people and places. Which will inspire learning into their adult years.
History
Our history curriculum follows the national curriculum aims. Children develop knowledge and historical skills as they move through the key stages. Through knowledge, discussion and educational visits, we equip children with the means to identify different historical perspectives, explore continuity and change over time and think about causes and consequences. Our children discuss text, give opinions, investigate sources of information, visit sites and use enquiry skills to develop understanding and critical thinking. Experiencing and doing history within and outside of the classroom.

Geography
Our geography curriculum follows the national curriculum aims. Children develop knowledge and geographical skills as they move through the key stages. Children explore how people and places interconnect and interact, examine place, space and scale, and consider interdependence and sustainability. Children have opportunities for hands on learning through fieldwork, collecting data, viewing diverse primary and secondary sources, and using the school grounds. Teaching develops and deepens their knowledge of physical and human processes and the interconnectedness of them, fostering care and respect for the environment and our world.
