Emergency Closures

Communicating with Parents

We use a number of ways to communicate with parents, we ask that parents ensure we have up to date phone numbers and email addresses to speed up the communication process;

  • Teachers2Parents SMS Text Messages & Emails
  • School Twitter feed @OGPSinspired
  • School Website latest news on homepage

If we need to close the school due to an emergency, we use the following procedures...

Before the Start of the Day

If we know of a reason the school needs to be closed BEFORE the start of the day, parents would be alerted through the methods of communication listed at the top of the page. We would also place signs and members of staff at the key entrance points to the school. Where children arrive on their own, they would be taken into school and parents contacted to establish who will come to pick them up or whether they have permission to walk home depending upon their age.

During the Day

If for any reason we had to close the site DURING the day, parents would be alerted through the methods of communication listed at the top of the page. Signs would be placed along with members of staff at the main entrance to the school to direct parents to where they could collect their child. Children will be kept safe by members of staff until they are collected.

Closing the school is always a last resort and would only take place to secure the safety of children and staff.

In the event of severe weather, such as heavy snowfall, parents will be contacted using the methods of communication at the top of the page to say whether the school is open or closed. We ask that parents do not call the school but use one of the other methods to find out about possible school closures as this blocks the phone lines.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding!
